Use/Application of parables

The Kingdom defies the wisdom of the world. It is not what they think it is. For it belongs to the poor in spirit, not to the preachers who fill stadiums. It belongs to those who thirst for righteousness and not to those who’ve made their plan and improved their lives. The scribes who know these things have treasures new and old, hidden and revealed, to preach to and for the Kingdom. But who is sufficient for these things? Only Our Lord Jesus Christ. Yet He performs them, reveals Himself, despite us, by the power of His Word and Promise. His death and resurrection make saints out of sinners. Soon the Kingdom of God will come in glory. It will no longer be hidden and neither will you.

Be sure to read the sermon first and then followed by the discussion with Rev. Petersen. His post this morning finally put my at rest over the issue of application of parables. Dangerous, it is and only rightfully discussed in light of the full message of Christ’s atonement for our sin through his dealth and resurrection. At least now I can once again get a reasonable amount of sleep rather than pouring over the Book of Concord, Luther’s writings, and other resources online. Anne and the kids are gone so now is my chance, so far squandered. Well, maybe not! :)
